Mould Remediation
Conditions that promote mould growth are caused either by the surface being damp from water ingress caused by a leak or rising damp or, when there is excessive condensation in the air, which turns back to water, when it comes in to contact with a surface that is colder than the air temperature in the room. This is known as the “dew point”
When tackling excessive mould growth, it is important to identify the cause of the moisture that is allowing the mould to grow. If it is water ingress or rising damp making the surface moist, it is important to identify where the source of the water is and stop it. This could be, for example; a roof leak, a poor seal on a window or a defective damp course, any of these causes will be damaging to the fabric of the property in the long term, as well as allowing mould spores to colonize and multiply on the surface.
One of the most common causes of mould growth is damp surfaces caused by condensation. This occurs when the warmer air in a room comes in to contact with a colder surface which causes the airborne moisture particles to revert back to water on the colder surface. This is typically an outside wall or a window.
So, what is the best way to tackle mould?
Chlorine based cleaning products that are available “over the counter” are very efficient at removing mould quickly but they do not kill the spores and, therefore the mould can regrow on the surface within a matter of days. Painting over Moulid, even when the growth has been removed is a quick fix but will not last and only makes the situation worse in the long term.
At Fairwood Services we use a specialist product containing two active biocides which not only cleans the surface, removing the mould, but also kills the remaining spores, In addition it leaves a fungistatic barrier on the surface which ensures that the treated surface remains mould free for an extended period. We then re paint the surface with a special paint that prevents mould growing on its surface for up to seven years.
This can be completed in a day, without the need for the residents to move out.
A simple, cost effective and very efficient solution to prevent the growth of mould on surfaces affected by condensation.
